Community Engagement
Cares is an outward-facing, community engagement program of the UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work. We work with many different stakeholders – individual self-advocates, families, community-based service organizations, professional groups, and local and state governments – to improve systems and enhance wellbeing for people with disabilities and older adults.
Collective Impact
We use the framework of Collective Impact to guide our work. Collective impact involves bringing stakeholders with different perspectives together to find a shared vision for change. It takes time and a lot of work learning and communicating together, but we have a strong record of success in achieving meaningful change that improves lives.
Examples
Strategic & Action Planning
Collective Impact requires setting strategic goals and translating them into action plans. This includes adjusting and adapting as new learning, opportunity, or priorities emerge. Doing all this effectively and with large groups of diverse stakeholders is a special talent at Cares.
Examples
Group Facilitation
None of the above is possible without excellent group facilitation skills. Cares works with small groups and large, in-person and online, in short sessions and day-long events, with ongoing collaborations and one-time seminars.
